A Dharma Offering from a friend in South Carolina

Hi Rev. Leon,
I had a funny little exchange with Henry this morning and I thought you might find it interesting. [Henry is David’s 8-year-old son, ed.]
This is a picture of our Xbox game system displaying the “red ring of death”, which indicates that there are some serious problems with the system. It won’t work at all when it is like this. Basically, I can do some workarounds and get the thing working for a while and then it will appear again and not work.
While I was going through the procedures to fix it, Henry asked if it was going to stay fixed. I told him that it would likely break again. He then asked if I could fix it again, and I said yeah but at some point, it would probably just die. He said “well, I thought Xbox’s would just keep working. I didn’t know that they’d die. Now that I know, I’m ok with it”.
I thought it was great that once he accepted the impermanence of the Xbox, he was ok with its ultimate demise. The little dude seems to teach me all the time!
I hope all is well in Portland.
Take care!
David
